TERENGGANU STATE GOVERNMENT UNVEILED AS MAJOR SPONSOR FOR INAUGURAL TOUR OF PENINSULAR
KUALA TERENGGANU, 26 September 2019 – The inaugural Tour of Peninsular (ToP) received a positive boost as they welcomed on board the Terengganu State Government – via their Visit Beautiful Terengganu campaign – as one of the major sponsors of the race this year.
Terengganu State Youth Development, Sports and Non-Government Development Committee Chairman Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah officiated the sponsorship presentation ceremony with Motoshoot Event Sdn. Bhd. Chief Executive Chairman Dato’ Haji Muhd. Opandi Che Wook at Wisma Darul Iman in Kuala Terengganu today.
Motoshoot Event Sdn. Bhd is the organiser of ToP. The UCI 2.1 race, which will be held from October 15-19, will feature five stages with the first and second stages being held in Terengganu.
The beautiful East Coast state of Terengganu is synonymous with Malaysian cycling.
The Terengganu Inc. continental team – better known as TSG – are currently the top ranked team in the UCI Asia Tour.
The state has also produced some of the biggest names in Malaysian cycling such as track stars Azizulhasni Awang, Fatehah Mustapa, road sprinters Anuar Manan and Harrif Saleh, all-rounder Adiq Husainie Othman and many others.
Wan Sukairi said local fans in Terengganu will get the chance to watch their favourite riders in action during ToP.
More importantly, the race will promote Terengganu to a worldwide audience.
“The Terengganu State Government welcomes top class international races such as ToP as it offers great branding and promotional opportunities in the sports tourism sector,” said Wan Sukairi.
“ToP will promote the Visit Beautiful Terengganu brand to the world thanks to the live streaming coverage of the race which is more effective than conventional television coverage.
“Viewers will have the chance to see the beautiful Terengganu Drawbridge which will be part of the race route as well as a few events.
“ToP will also help promote the Visit Beautiful Terengganu brand domestically as the race will also go through various other states in the over latter stages.”
Dato’ Opandi said the race organisers were deeply grateful for the support given by the Terengganu State Government.
“This sponsorship means a lot to us. The Terengganu government have not only sponsored us financially but are also supporting ToP via their state machinery to ensure that this event is a success,” said Dato’ Opandi.
ToP is Malaysia’s first ever UCI 2.1 race which places it a cut above tours such as Jelajah Malaysia and Tour of Johor, which are both rated as UCI 2.2 races, and just a step under the iconic Tour de Langkawi, which is a UCI 2.HC event.
